Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grand Tweed
48Plymouth yarn
Just the Facts (or mostly facts)
This the yarn that changed my opinioin of animal fibers. It is Plymouth Yarn's Baby Alpaca Grand Tweed. What a name.. What a yarn! This yarn is made of 90% Baby Alpaca, 7% Acrylic, 3% Polyester with a gauge of 3 sts = 1" on US 10.5 Needle. There is approximately 110 yards per 100 gram hank and it is a 2-ply construction. It does need to be wound into a ball or skein for easier use. There are at current 14 colors, all very wearble. I purchased mine at my local yarn shop, the Needlepoint Joint, in Ogden. The Plymouth website does have a shop finder, but I imagine an internet search would be very effective as well.
The I used
Now the fun part...
This yarn is amazingly soft. I could not stop petting it in the store. I chose to crochet with this yarn (since I'm lazy and hate weaving in ends on knitted fabrics). I sized way up from the US 10.5/K on the ball band to a US 15/P to enhace drape and make it a quicker project. It is a little slippery so a wood or bamboo hook would be my suggestion if you're not the patient sort. No splitting though. It does shed. I got those super fine hairs caught in my eyelashes and tickling my nose. Not as bad as some other loose spun yarn I've worked with. It works up very quick thanks to the bulky weight. It is incredibly light. to complement the softness. I don't suggest baby items because of the care (hand wash-dry flat). But great for a scarf, wrap, hat or, if your ambitious, a sweater. I will post the finished item on my blog, but this will not be for sale in my store.
